Inter boss Luciano Spalletti says he now has the task of getting Ivan Perisic focused after the winger was “conned” by Arsenal.
It is claimed that the Gunners wanted the Croatia winger on loan with a £35million option to purchase.
Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta even admitted on Sunday the winger wanted to move to London and the two clubs appeared ready at that stage to thrash out the finer details of the arrangement.
That never happened though with Ausilio claiming there were “no suitable offers” and Spalletti believes his player was misled by the Gunners.
Perisic was an unused sub last night as Inter lost the Coppa Italia quarter-final to Lazio on penalties, with Spalletti also concerned about the form of Radja Nainggolan.
Speaking to Rai Sport after the defeat to Lazio, Spalletti said: “We’ve got to get Perisic back on track, but also Nainggolan, as he had injuries, setbacks and various issues. He needs time on the field and patience.
“As for Perisic, there was this story on the market, but he is a professional, understands his role and yesterday it was already a very different mood. These things happen in the transfer window, the player received an impressive proposal and was tempted. However, he then realised it was not a true offer, that he’d been conned, and took a step back.
“Now he’ll resume training and as soon as his mind is back fully on Inter, we’ll let him play.”
