Inter Milan are reported to have been in touch with Tottenham over a straight swap deal for their unsettled star Tanguy Ndombele.
The French midfielder joined Tottenham in a club record deal from Lyon last summer – but has struggled to justify his £55.45m price tag.
Jose Mourinho savagely questioned the midfielder earlier this season, with criticism coming in after defeat at Burnley.
Since football’s resumption, Ndombele has only featured twice. Neither time either did he catch the eye, coming off the bench in the defeat at Sheffield United and in the tame draw at Bournemouth.
Mourinho publicly insists he is ready to stand by the star. However, earlier this month he was linked with two potential replacements. Schalke’s Weston McKennie was mentioned as one target, but it seems Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the man he wants.
Ndombele for his part is not short of suitors either. He has been mentioned as a target for Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who need to replace Arthur and Thiago Alcantara, respectively.
The France star is also on the radar of Inter boss Antonio Conte.
Now journalist Miguel Rico, writing in Mundo Deportivo, claims the Nerazzurri have been in contact with Spurs to offer them a swap deal.
He says the Serie A side have offered Spurs the chance to sign Marcelo Brozovic in a straight swap deal. According to Rico, Brozovic was offered to Barca some months back; an offer they declined. But he says the Croatian has now been dangled in front of Spurs as bait for Ndombele.
Rico doesn’t say whether the deal will tempt Spurs to do business, but given Mourinho’s inability to get the best from Ndombele, a clean break may be in everyone’s best interest.
Brozovic, for his part, has also been linked with Liverpool in recent months.
He is contracted to the San Siro until 2022 and has a €60m exit clause in his current contract.
Mourinho eyes Porto winger
Tottenham, meanwhile, have been linked with a swoop for FC Porto winger Luis Diaz.
The Colombian, 23, has been a revelation in his first European campaign since joining from Colombian side Junior.
He has struck 12 goals in all competitions, including four in 10 in European competition.
As per the Scottish Sun, Mourinho is keen to bring the winger to north London this summer with a fee of £20m being mentioned.
