A relative of Jadon Sancho reportedly said the Borussia Dortmund winger preferred a move to Liverpool ahead of his seemingly impending move to Manchester United.
Sancho, 20, is one of Europe’s top talents after his best season in front of goal. The England international scored 20 goals and assisted 20 others in 44 appearances across all competitions.
United were keen last summer and his consistent form has increased their interest, with the most recent reports suggest the Red Devils have finally made a significant breakthrough.
SPORTbild reporter Christian Falk has claimed the Old Trafford club will pay the player’s fee in instalments. What’s more, Sky Sports report that United are close to agreeing personal terms on a five-year deal.
According to pundit Danny Murphy and talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, however, Sancho’s initial preference was a move to Anfield.
Murphy told the radio station on Monday: “I did hear that his preference would be Liverpool ahead of United.”
In response, Crook said: “I heard the same and that has actually come from a family member of Jadon Sancho’s that lives over here in England.
“That was before the pandemic and before Jurgen Klopp could justify spending big money on Timo Werner.”
Liverpool have so far shown a reluctance to spend in the transfer market. The Reds reportedly backed away from former RB Leipzig marksman Werner due to his €50million release clause.
That allowed Chelsea to swoop in, the Blues willing to spend after a quiet spell in the past year.
Liverpool look likely to raise funds through sales, with Dejan Lovren reportedly close to leaving. The Croatia international is allegedly on the verge of a move to Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.
LIVERPOOL TO EXPAND SELLING PLANS?
What’s more, striker Divock Origi could join Lovren in heading for the exit door, according to another report.
Aston Villa are keen on the Belgium international, who remains down Klopp’s pecking order at Anfield.
Villa’s interest comes amid their search to find more goals, with Jack Grealish their top scorer this season.
