Intriguing talks revealed as potential Firmino, Werner Anfield swap nears

Bayern Munich have held talks with the representatives of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino about a potential move back to the Bundesliga, according to one journalist.

Firmino, who moved to Anfield from Hoffenheim in 2015, has played an irreplaceable part in Jurgen Klopp’s side in the past few seasons as they look to follow up Champions League glory with Premier League triumph this term.

However, recent reports have indicated that Bayern have identified the Brazilian as their number one summer target as they look to continue the rebuild sparked into life by last season’s Champions League exit at the hands of the Reds.

In response, Liverpool have been heavily linked with signing RB Leipzig marksman Timo Werner, who has made no secret of his admiration for and willingness to be part of Klopp’s squad.

As for whether Firmino could be let go with Werner’s arrival possible, reports have insisted that Werner will only be brought in to compliment what Klopp already has at his disposal.

Nevertheless, according to journalist Ian McGarry, Bayern have indeed been in contact about Firmino’s availability and the possibility of the Brazilian and Werner swapping places looks realistic.

“We have accurately and consistently reported that Werner will join Liverpool we believe this summer,” McGarry told the Transfer Window Podcast.

“I cannot report anything that I think changes that although interestingly news is that Roberto Firmino’s representatives have been contacted by Bayern Munich in the last 10 days with regards to ‘would he be willing to leave Anfield? Would he be interested in a return to the Bundesliga?

“And ‘Would he be interested in becoming part of Bayern’s rebuild?’ which of course they have been planning now since the beginning of last season.

“Firmino may fit in very well as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski who may well move on, potentially to MLS in the summer.”

Firmino has continued to be a vital part of the Liverpool side this term, having contributed seven goals and eight assists in the Premier League.

Werner, meanwhile, is in sensational form having netted 27 times in 33 outings.

In other news, Georginio Wijnaldum has named three Dutch clubs he could return to if he decides to leave Liverpool in the future.

Wijnaldum has less than 18 months left on his contract at Anfield and has become a fan favourite.
