Jack Grealish touted for Liverpool move as pundit urges Man Utd snub
Jack Grealish would walk into the Liverpool midfield if Jurgen Klopp were to sign him this summer – but a move to Manchester United would be beneath him, according to one pundit.
With the continued uncertainty regarding the long-term future of Paul Pogba, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is strongly tipped to be on the hunt for a creative playmaker in the summer to compliment recent arrival Bruno Fernandes.
Rising Premier League duo James Maddison and Grealish have both frequently been linked with a summer switch, though interest in the former of those names appears to have cooled in recent weeks.
That leaves Grealish in Solskjaer’s crosshairs, but former Villa favourite Gabby Agbonlahor reckons a move to Old Trafford would prove a poor choice and that the England hopeful could do a whole lot better than going to Manchester United.
“I am not just saying this as I have played with him, but I honestly think he is the best attacking midfield option that England have got at this current time,” Agbonlahor told Bet O’Clock.
“That is why, when people say Grealish to Manchester United, he could do so much better than that, and he could walk into any team in the world, even Barcelona or Juventus. For where Manchester United are now, he could go to better teams around the world, so he doesn’t need to limit himself to just United and focus on teams who are playing in the Champions League.”
Tottenham were keen to sign 24-year-old when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge last summer and it is thought they may yet renew their interest after losing Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan in January.
However, Agbonlahor reckons Klopp’s Liverpool, or even Chelsea, would be an ideal fit for Grealish.
“He is the missing piece that a lot of teams need right now,” he continued. “I watch Liverpool, and they are an outstanding team, but they are missing a player like him, Chelsea can’t break anyone down and are missing someone like Jack. Mason Mount is not on the same level as Grealish.
“There are a lot of teams that he would walk into, so it is down to Villa to have the resolve to reject bids and for them to grow as a club because they aren’t a team that should be fighting with relegation.”
Agbonlahor, however, insists it is not impossible that Grealish remains at Villa next season should the club manage to avoid relegation back to the Championship.
“They will stay up this season and will start to climb the table next year,” Agbonlahor, who retired in March 2019, confidently predicted. “The club will have to work out how much they actually value him at and how much it is worth to move him on.
“Unless a crazy high bid comes in for him, I would just turn the phones off and reject every bid that comes in for Jack.”
