Jack Grealish expected to reject Man Utd move for one main reason

Jack Grealish TEAMtalk

Aston Villa have been given renewed hope that Jack Grealish will reject the opportunity to sign for Manchester United this summer, with one main reason cited behind the midfielder’s thinking.

Villa skipper Grealish has been in superb form this season with seven goals and six assists in 26 Premier League starts, as he tries to keep his boyhood club in the Premier League.

That form has attracted plenty of interest from other clubs, with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer known to be a big admirer of the 24-year-old.

The Red Devils are being strongly tipped to make a move for the playmaker this summer, with some report suggesting that they are ready to pay up to £70million to get their man – despite some pundits claiming it would not be a good move.

However, Solskjaer is said to be determined to land his man and – even though he could play him in an unexpected position – he does form one of his main transfer targets for the summer window.

But despite his determination, Gabriel Agbonlahor reckons Grealish will stay loyal to his hometown team and says he will reject the chance to join United purely for his love of the Villans.

“I think he will stay,” the former Villa striker told the Claret & Blue podcast, as relayed by the Manchester Evening News.

“I know everyone’s 50/50 but I think he will because the club’s built around him.

“Villa will stay up and the club will be built around him again.

“He’s captain and he’s still posting photos of him at the academy when he started when he was six.

“It’s similar to me, I had chances to leave but, when the club means that much to you, the grass isn’t always greener. I think he will stay but I can’t speak for him, it’s his decision.”

Hourihane talks up huge Jack Grealish qualities

Grealish was also surprisingly linked with a move to Arsenal on Tuesday morning if they could offload Mesut Ozil, with one pundit suggesting Arsenal should make a bold move to sign him.

But wherever he ends up, his Villa teammate Connor Hourihane is adamant the player has the quality to play for the best teams around.

“He’s top, top class. In terms of pure ability and sheer skill and technique level he’s easily the best player I’ve played with to date,” Hourihane told the Southern Star’s podcast, as reported by Birmingham Live.

“He’s just got that gift. He runs quicker with the ball, when he faces someone up you’re in real trouble. He’s skipping by the best players in this league so easily.

“He’s developed over the three years I’ve been here – he’s taken his game to a new level – especially this year in the Premier League.

“He’s taken it by storm really. You know, England team and getting that big move is only a matter of time because, if I’m being brutally honest, he’s too good for our team at Aston Villa.”

There is some good news for United, however, after their path to Jadon Sancho was made considerably clearer after a big development in Dortmund’s quest to sign a replacement.
