Jamie Carragher reveals main concern for Klopp as Liverpool run ends

Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp won’t be too dismayed at seeing his side’s unbeaten Premier League record end – but has expressed another major concern for the Premier League champions-elect.

Liverpool’s dreams of completing the Premier League season unbeaten came crashing down when Watford blew them away in extraordinary fashion at Vicarage Road.

Ismaila Sarr got two goals and an assist as Watford claimed a 3-0 win to become the first team to beat Liverpool in the Premier League in over a year.

After the game, Klopp explained why Liverpool fell so short at Vicarage Road and suggested his players failed to match their usual standards.

Klopp told Sky Sports: “They did exactly what they wanted to do, we did not. That’s how football works.

“The first half was a tough one, a lot of second balls, running here and there, we had the ball a lot but we didn’t come in the right positions to cross, the right positions to finish, against a really good, organised side, with a top set-up for this game.

“You have to accept it, it’s not so easy, but it’s the proof we were not good enough tonight. It’s always very difficult. We have to accept if after.

“In the game you have to fight. We were 3-0 down but we still tried, there were no silly situations where somebody got frustrated and tried to kick someone.

“If you win, good, if you lose, try to do it in the right manner and do it like a man.”

And while Liverpool remain 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, Carragher reckons the manner of the defeat, and another limp Liverpool display, will be a concern to the German.

“Listen, [a defeat] was bound to happen at some stage I think,” Carragher said on Goals on Sunday.

“There’s a lot of rejoicing today from a Mr Neville, popping champagne, getting too carried away as you’d expect.

“But no I can understand Arsenal fans are delighted as well that that saves the Invincibles record.

“But I think the title’s been won for possibly a couple of months actually, it’s just when Liverpool are going to win it.

“There was a lot of hope from Liverpool fans that it would actually be here at Goodison Park in a couple of weeks but I think that result yesterday puts that to bed now and we may have to wait until the Etihad and the Man City game.

“No [I didn’t see the result coming], listen it’s a massive shock, I think that’s why there was such a reaction afterwards really.

“It wasn’t the result, it was the performance more than anything.

“Playing in the Premier League you can go anywhere and lose 1-0 and it doesn’t go great or you’re a little bit unfortunate.

“But I think yesterday Watford thoroughly deserved the result and were well worth 3-0 as well. So it wasn’t the result, I think the performance will worry Jurgen Klopp more than the result.”

After the match Klopp said the performance from his side was not a shock and offered his hearty congratulations to the Hornets.

The German said: “I am not surprised by the performance because it would mean I have never seen something like that before – and I have seen it a lot of times.

“So, what I can say, I think 3-0 is a bit harsh but we had a big hand in that, so we don’t have to think about that.”

Meanwhile, a report claims two stars will leave Liverpool this summer and that Klopp had already identified an exciting replacement.
