Jan Molby outlines Klopp transfer plan that will bring Werner to Anfield

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby has predicted that the Reds will get a deal over the line for Timo Werner, with “one or two” players leaving Anfield in the process.

Having been relatively quiet in recent transfer windows – focusing on youth with the signings of Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg last summer – Liverpool are expected to be busier than most in the upcoming market.

The contracts of Adam Lallana, Pedro Chirivella and Nathaniel Clyne all run out at the end of June and while short-term extensions could be offered to allow them to finish the season, their longer-term future is uncertain.

As for potential arrivals, Jurgen Klopp has been linked with freshening up his attack, with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werrner heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

Speaking to Hotel Tia, Molby added that Klopp could reshuffle his side in various ways, including by handing further first-team opportunities to young players such as Curtis Jones.

“Yes I do [think Werner will come],” former Reds midfielder Molby said. “I don’t think there’s going to be an awful lot of transfers happening this forthcoming summer, but I think that in many ways suits Liverpool.

“They’ve got a very strong squad at the moment. There will be one or two players leaving, but we’ve got some young players that need to be introduced into the squad.”

Speaking more about Werner, who has also been linked with Barcelona, Molby added that his style of play is better suited to Liverpool’s than the Spanish giants.

“So if Liverpool cannot spend any money I don’t think it will be a big problem. Timo Werner eventually I think will come. I think his preferred choice is Liverpool,” Molby said.

“Also when I look at him, he is a top, top player, but I couldn’t see him playing for Barcelona because they play in a different way, they play possession-based football.

“That is not his game. His game is exactly what we are all about.”

The latest report claimed that Werner’s preferred options are a move to Liverpool or an extended stay in the Bundesliga.

In other news, Barcelona legend Xavi has warned his former club not to pursue the signing of Reds winger Sadio Mane.
