Jekyll and Hyde City
City fan Danny Jackson gives us his thoughts ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wigan at the JJB and wonders which City will turn up.
Our upcoming game this Sunday with Wigan is going to be a tricky one. City’s record against Wigan in recent seasons isn’t great to say the least.
I’d be tempted to go as far as calling them a ‘bogey side’ so the players are going to have to be on their metal to get a result at the JJB – and will need to turn in a performance like we did in the 6-0 rout of Portsmouth last Sunday.
Wigan are a strong and solid team and particularly at home are hard to break down. I don’t expect we will get as much time on the ball as we did against Pompey so I think our flair players will have to not only be on their game but are going to have work hard for the cause.
Disaster on the coast
The midweek performance in the Carling Cup was unfortunately ‘typical City’ – a tag I was hoping we had shaken off since the arrival of ADUG and our good start to the season.
But this is City we are talking about and I’m unsure even all the money in the world will completely stop these unexpected results. But we’re City fans and we’re used to it! It could actually be a good thing with our probable passage into the group stages of the European cup and our push for a top-five slot (well I’m going to say that aren’t I?)
Changes
Hughesy will no doubt bring back the £80m worth of talent he left out of the Brighton game, namely Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Shaun Wright-Phillips and the one and only Robinho so I do expect the performance against Wigan to be much improved.
It will be a real test of character particularly for our new South American boys, Jo, Robinho and Zabaleta, as I’m sure none of them will have played in a ground like the JJB and in an atmosphere like it is surely going to be.
All that said, we have been performing really well and in the Premier League are the leading goalscorers so I expect this class to shine through and for City to come away with all three points courtesy of a hard fought 2-1 win and another two goals from the sublime Robinho!!
