Joe Gomez makes vow as Liverpool shed light on recovery process

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez has given a glimpse into his process of recovery from the serious knee injury which is keeping him out of action for Liverpool.

The Premier League champions are battling through a personnel crisis in defence at present. There has been a lot of focus on the progress of Virgil van Dijk on his journey back from an ACL injury, but centre-back partner Gomez is also still out for a lengthy period.

Liverpool have not done too badly in their absence, with Fabinho thoroughly impressing after dropping into defence. But in the long-term, they will be counting down the days until they can have Van Dijk and Gomez back.

That may not be until next season, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Van Dijk has been shedding light on his road to recovery recently.

While there is confidence the Dutchman may be ahead of schedule, there has been less news about Gomez. But now, the England international has provided an update.

Posting a picture of him undergoing individual training, he wrote on Instagram: “Taking it a day at a time, but giving my all… ‘There is no education like adversity’.”

Gomez is using the facilities at Liverpool’s new Kirkby training ground, which include an environmental chamber and HydroWork pool.

Such facilities were part of the reason Liverpool left Melwood for Kirkby. It should help players like Gomez and Van Dijk at all stages of their recoveries.

Liverpool also posted an update about Gomez via their official website, displaying photographs of him using their facilities.

The club sent a reminder that there is “no timescale” on when the 23-year-old will be able to return. He has been out of action since November 8th.

Gomez has had various injury problems during his time at Liverpool but this is one of the tougher spells he has had to endure – and it could not have come at a worse time for his team either.

Lovren reveals Klopp message

One player who Liverpool may be wishing they had kept hold of for these circumstances is Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian defender left the club in the summer, but could have had more opportunities if he had stayed given the injuries to Van Dijk and Gomez.

Instead, he left for Zenit Saint Petersburg – but is still aware of what has been going on at his former club.

Lovren said recently: “I think Liverpool miss me more than I miss them and Jurgen Klopp knows this, because we communicate. He wrote recently: ‘We miss you.’

“I spoke with Jurgen [after I left], but I will not disclose details. Jurgen said only good things and wished him luck.”

The 2018 World Cup finalist also offered Van Dijk some advice regarding his comeback from injury.
