John Murtough’s key Man Utd job revealed as ‘radical overhaul’ of position

Manchester United are planning a ‘radical overhaul’ of their goalkeeping ranks in this summer’s transfer window, according to a report.
Debate has increased over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s options between the sticks since the start of last season.
No. 1 David de Gea‘s form has slipped on several occasions, but he has had little in the way of a challenge behind him.
This season, though, Dean Henderson has pushed him and has enjoyed a spell in the side with the Spaniard on personal leave.
Nevertheless, Henderson has become frustrated at his general lack of chances amid De Gea’s struggles.
Previous reports have claimed that United will, as such, listen to offers for their first-choice stopper. Football Insider makes a similar claim, but adds a new thread to the club’s plans this summer.
The Red Devils want to send two goalkeepers out and bring two new ones in, with De Gea and Sergio Romero the pair at risk of leaving.
Indeed, United have ‘already begun’ the process of finding their two new stoppers. What’s more, the recruitment department has a ‘significant’ budget to work with.

Solskjaer expects Man Utd return for De Gea soon
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects goalkeeper David De Gea to return 'very soon' after celebrating the birth of his first child in Spain.
However, the Red Devils are also aware that few clubs would be willing to take on De Gea’s wages; the 30-year-old takes home the most of any United player, reportedly around £350,000 per week.
But shifting Romero will prove an easier task. The Argentine became frozen out under Solskjaer some time ago and has not played a game this season.
In fact, the Red Devils were willing to see him go in last summer’s window and in the recent January window.
United’s new football director will play a key role in proceedings, as pointed out by the Manchester Evening News.
John Murtough will head up the club’s transfer strategy and liaise with Solskjaer over targets. Indeed, the MEN adds that he will play a ‘key role’ in transfer decisions.
Man Utd reportedly eyeing Roma centre-back
Meanwhile, a new centre-back is also supposedly a priority for United transfer chiefs this summer.
Several names have entered their radar, including Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Bayern Munich’s David Alaba.
However, a fresh report claims that the Red Devils have eyes on a Roma star.
