The 17-year-old attacking midfielder was handed his first start for the club against Accrington last weekend having only agreed professional terms in March, and capped it off with a goal in the dying moments of the game.

He admitted he was surprised to even be included in the side and told the club’s official website: “When I was told I would be in the starting line-up I was really nervous but I was really up for it at the same time.

“I thought I would score when I found out I was starting and luckily I did.”

He added: “I was supposed to do a celebration when I scored, but it was all going mad so I just ran to the corner flag and everyone came and congratulated me – it was the best feeling in the world.

“I used to dream about this, I never thought it would happen at this age, maybe when I was 18 I thought I might have got a contract. It’s just the best feeling.”
