Henderson at odds with Salah after Liverpool forward’s Man City admission

Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah provided contrasting outlooks on Liverpool emerging with a 2-2 draw against Man City on Sunday.

Liverpool turned their fortunes around after a tepid first half display at Anfield. The two sides went in level, though the Reds were hanging on on more than one occasion.

A much improved display after the break saw Sadio Mane and Salah score. In Salah’s case, his superb solo goal that left Bernardo Silva and Aymeric Laporte in his wake will live long in the memory.

But as all good champions do, Man City rolled with the punches and fought back on to level terms twice.

And in his post-match interview with the BBC, captain Henderson insisted Liverpool were “unlucky” not to emerge with all three points.

“We’re a little bit unlucky not to come away with the three points I think,” said Henderson.

“We weren’t pressing in the right way in the first half. We started OK but after the first 10 minutes we couldn’t get at them as much as we would like. I felt we did that in the second half.”

Regarding Salah’s wonder goal, Henderson said: “It was incredible. He just kept beating players and he’s deadly in those positions. Unfortunately it wasn’t the winner.”

Liverpool are reportedly interested in FC Porto duo Luis Diaz and Fabio Vieira, with more news on links with Allan Saint-Maximin as ex-Peter Crouch has his say on Mohammed Salah.

But on the overall result, Henderson admitted: “I think we’re disappointed overall.

“We can be better in the first half and then last 10 minutes, 2-1 up we should see the game out. Positives to take though City are a good team and it’s a tough fixture but a little bit of disappointment overall.”

Salah makes contrasting Henderson admission

Liverpool goalscorer Salah also spoke to the press, but in contrast to Henderson, admitted that a draw was indeed a “fair” result.

“It’s hard because they keep a ball a lot,” Salah told Sky Sports. “The first half not really good but the second half we played good. This is the result so we have to accept it.

“They dominated the game from the beginning. We struggled first half but at least when we struggled it was 0-0. We talked in the dressing room and I think we played good in the second half.”

On his superb individual goal, the Egyptian said: “I have to watch it to see. It would be more special if we won the game but it is what it is. It’s a good goal but nothing much to say.”

When asked if a draw was a fair result, Salah admitted: “I have to be fair. They create a lot of chances, they keep the ball a lot. I wish I could say no but it’s fair to say yes. They had a lot of chances and a draw is a fair result.”
