Henderson discusses his journey as he signs huge new Liverpool deal

Jordan Henderson has spoken of his delight and his progress at Liverpool after putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Anfield.

The Reds captain joined the club in June 2011 for a fee of around £20million and has gone on to make 284 appearances for the club.

Henderson is an important figure in manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans and while Liverpool did not disclose the length of the deal, widespread reports claim the 28-year-old has signed on for five more years  – committing him to the Reds until the summer of 2023.

After signing the deal, Henderson told Liverpool’s official website:  “I’m very happy to have signed a new contract for a long period of time. I’m absolutely delighted.

“It doesn’t seem like too long ago when I signed my first one – it feels like yesterday, really – but a lot has happened since then.

“I feel it’s been a progressive journey for me throughout my time here and one I’ve enjoyed so much.

“There is no other place in the world I would rather play football. I want to be here for as long as I can be.

“I’m so privileged to have been a part of this club for so long, and hopefully even longer now.”

Henderson was appointed Liverpool captain after Steven Gerrard’s departure in 2015 and has scored 24 goals for the club.

Meanwhile, Rhian Brewster says he hopes to play “quite a bit this season” after deciding to sign a new contract at Anfield over the summer.
