Jorginho names key Tuchel idea that has inspired Chelsea resurgence

Jorginho, Thomas Tuchel Chelsea

Jorginho believes the rotation policy being used by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea has been the key to their upturn in form.

Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hotseat in January. Since then, the Blues have been unbeaten – form which has lifted them back into the top four. Jorginho has started 10 of those games overall.

The Italy international has divided opinion under previous regimes at Chelsea. However, he has been won over by Tuchel.

Although he was unable to break back into the Italy team for the current international break – a decision made so he could recover from recent injury setbacks – Jorginho has done relatively well at club level.

Tuchel may be the main man to thank for that. Indeed, Jorginho was praiseworthy of his new boss when speaking to Globo Esporte.

In quotes translated by Sport Witness, the 29-year-old said that the whole Chelsea squad have been kept on their toes due to Tuchel’s tendency to swap and change his players.

“I think that having a starting XI that changes a lot is good for the team,” Jorginho said. “Because that means that we have a lot of high-level players, of great quality, and whoever enters the pitch needs to do their best, to win.

“This ends up making it difficult for the coach to make choices, but I think it’s positive. It increases competitiveness even in training, because we cannot relax; we need to be at our maximum physical level, be concentrated, always up there.

“If you let your guard down, you can stay out of one or two games, because the other players will be focused there.”

Jorginho future still in doubt

Ever since Jorginho first moved to Chelsea in 2018, he has been regularly linked with a return to Serie A.

A return to Napoli was recently suggested as a possibility and his agent Jorge Santos did not rule it out.

“There are many rumours about that because he did so well at Napoli,” Santos told Radio Marte. “It’s a special moment for him.

“He is an important player for Chelsea now. However, he is an Italy international, and we are thinking about a return to Serie A if he leaves the Blues.

“If Napoli will make an offer, we’ll evaluate it. He had a great time in Naples, and he has many friends over there.”
