‘Can you imagine’ – Klopp told ‘beast’ signing would catapult Liverpool duo’s numbers

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes that Jurgen Klopp should bring in Erling Haaland to add serious mettle to his attack.

Liverpool have enjoyed remarkable consistency from their famed front three since they became a trio in 2017.

Indeed, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have scored over 250 goals between them.

However, winds of change have emerged this season with Diogo Jota’s arrival. The Portuguese has broken up the trio, while also offering a potential glimpse into life without their current front three.

But further potential for change remains, especially with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe both rising to stardom.

According to Enrique, Liverpool should look to bring in Haaland and watch as he brings even more out of flying full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

“We need a no.9 in the summer,” former left-back Enrique told Empire of the Kop.

“My choice is Erling Haaland. We can rule out Kylian Mbappe – he’ll be too expensive. But I think Haaland is possible.

“He’s so good in the air – he’s a beast. Can you imagine Trent and Robbo crossing balls into the box for Haaland? Wow! They would get another 20 assists each per season.

“He’d be another dimension for us and is the kind of player we should be going for.

“Haaland might cost £100m, but we spent £75m on Van Dijk and that’s what it takes.”

Haaland exploded onto the scene last season by scoring a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for RB Salzburg.

As such, the world sat up and watched before Dortmund won the race to land the Norwegian last December.

Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, scoring 43 goals in 45 games.

But just as the Reds could land a big signing, they are also likely to lose a star player this summer.

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is into the final months of his Anfield deal and has shown no signs of penning an extension as yet.

As such, reports have linked the Dutchman with several clubs.
