Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering a raid on his old club Tottenham for promising young goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi.

Mourinho, who is now in charge of Serie A giants Roma, is said to rate the 20-year-old very highly. Indeed, he frequently included him in Spurs’ first-team training before his somewhat surprising sacking last season.

Oluwayemi, who is currently part of Nigeria’s senior squad, is out of contract at the end of the season. To that end, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January.

The talented stopper is also said to be interesting Benfica and a number of German sides, including Stuttgart.

The former England youth international was raised in Essex but qualifies for Nigeria through his family.

He came through the ranks in north London but is expected to move on for regular first-team football.

The signing of Pierluigi Gollini also knocked Oluwayemi further down the pecking order.

The only hope for the young keeper is that Tottenham decide to move on from Hugo Lloris next summer, when the veteran France star will be out of contract.

Meanwhile, Matthias Ginter has cast doubt on his future at Borussia Monchengladbach. That has led to Tottenham reportedly looking to sign the World Cup-winning centre-back.

The 27-year-old will become a free agent next summer, leading to a number of clubs showing interest in a potential signing. Spurs are chief among those, with Fabio Paratici still looking for defensive options.

The report from Gladbach Live states the reason why the German club are not offering the player a new deal.

Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said: “Well, we actually couldn’t make an adequate offer to Matthias Ginter as a German national player.

“We just didn’t have the financial means at the time.”

Eberl did add, however, that with Covid restrictions now lifting and fans back in the stadium, Gladbach could still potentially open talks to keep the player.

But with nothing concrete on the cards, Tottenham, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all keeping an eye on the former Dortmund star’s situation. Liverpool, meanwhile, have also been linked with the player.
