Mourinho makes exciting prediction that Tottenham star could stay ‘for life’

Jose Mourinho has predicted that Son Heung-min will spend the rest of his career with Tottenham.

Son has established himself as one of Tottenham’s key players since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. He is closing in on his 100th goal for Spurs.

The South Korea captain has enjoyed a particularly fruitful start to the season, with his partnership with Harry Kane blossoming. They have combined for 12 goals in the Premier League; one more would be a top flight record.

There has been talk of Tottenham rewarding Son with a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2023.

Daniel Levy does not want that deal to run down, putting him at risk of losing Son for a cheaper fee. Therefore, he is planning to offer him fresh terms – including a payrise.

However, some pundits have urged other clubs to make a move for the 28-year-old while they can. He has the kind of proven quality any team would benefit from.

Tottenham, though, will remain hopeful of keeping their star man. But manager Mourinho insists he does not mind waiting for the new deal to be offered.

“No, I don’t have any news,” Mourinho said about Son’s contract situation.

“To be honest, this instability around society, clubs and football… we have 2,000 people [in the stands], we are expecting more people, more income certainly a couple of weeks later, then 2,000 goes back zero people a couple of weeks later.

“I’m not a money man but wouldn’t like to be an owner or CEO of one of the big clubs with all this instability. How can you sign a new contract with a player?”

‘I see Son signing a new contract’

In the long-term, though, Mourinho is confident that Son will commit his future.

“You don’t know what’s going to happen next season, you don’t know if you can offer the player a better contract. I think it’s a very strange moment.

“I just trust Sonny and Mr. Levy, I know both want to stay, if possible, for life and until the end of careers. So I see Son signing a new contract here, but I don’t believe – I don’t even ask – for something to happen now because it’s not the right moment.”
