Mourinho preparing €30m-plus Tottenham bid for former Liverpool star

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is keen on a move for Juventus midfielder Emre Can and is preparing to offer over €30m to sign him, according to reports.

Can, who moved to Turin from Liverpool in the summer of 2018, has failed to make his mark under boss Maurizio Sarri having played only eight Serie A games so far this season.

The German international was not included in his side’s Champions League squad and is fighting for a position alongside the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentancur and Blaise Matuidi.

What’s more, Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey both joined in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, respectively.

Can’s future has been up in the air for some time now with Manchester United and Everton both said to be interested in bringing him back to the Premier League.

According to Italian source TuttoJuve, Tottenham have now joined the race and are set to make a last-minute move for the player, with less than five days remaining in the transfer window.

The source claims that Mourinho is firmly interested in Can and could be prepared to offer over €30m to bring him to North London.

However, PSG sporting director Leonardo and officials from Borussia Dortmund are also keeping a close eye on Can’s situation and could join Tottenham in making an approach.

Can has made 45 appearances for Juventus since his move, scoring four times and assisting one other goal.

In other Tottenham news, summer target Paulo Dybala has revealed that he was “close” to leaving Juve in the summer.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the midfielder before the start of last season and a move is said to have broken down on deadline day.

Speaking to The Guardian, Dybala said: “I was close to leaving.

“That was in the club’s thinking, I knew. Until the last minute, we were waiting.”
