Mourinho warned severed relationship with Tottenham star could cost him

Tanguy Ndombele, Jose Mourinho Tottenham TEAMtalk

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle says Jose Mourinho must make peace with the club’s record-signing Tanguy Ndombele or face the consequences.

Ndombele, a £53.8million summer arrival, has had a largely frustrating first season under both Mauricio Pochettino and Mourinho.

The Frenchman has only completed 90 minutes on five occasions, owing to continued fitness problems.

Relations between the midfielder and Mourinho hit breaking point in the 1-1 draw with Burnley in March, with the manager insisting that Ndombele had to do “much better” or face being axed from the side.

With the top flight set to resume on Wednesday, Hoddle has claimed that Mourinho must work with the midfielder, or risk watching him become “sensational” for a different team.

“Ndombele I think there’s a player in there, he’s [Mourinho] got to find that,” he told Premier League Productions (via the Daily Express).

“Whether he’s gone too far with that lad and they won’t get him back as a player, I don’t know.

“But I truly believe there’s a player in there waiting to come out. If he moved on i think he would be sensational somewhere.”

TOTTENHAM’S PLAN GOING FORWARD

Hoddle also spoke about Mourinho’s plans for his first summer transfer window in charge of Tottenham.

Spurs made additions in January but they will be working with a much smaller budget this time round.

Indeed, Tottenham are the only side to have taken out a Bank of England loan – worth £175million – to help them through the crisis.

“In the long-term I think they need two new full-backs, I think they need a passer in midfield,” Hoddle said.

“A lot of players at Tottenham at the moment, they run with the ball. Too many players don’t release the ball quickly.

“[Harry] Winks is probably the only one who can do it, but is he an [Christian] Eriksen?

“That’s how [Harry] Kane will score goals, good crosses coming in from your full-backs and a midfield player. Eriksen and Kane had that little bit of eye contact.

“I don’t think they’ve got that at the moment. I think too many players hold onto the ball for too long in midfield, and teams come in and crowd them out.

“There’s a lot of tactical work to be done on the training ground, but also individuals who need to up their game if they’re going to be in the [top five].”

Tottenham resume their campaign against Manchester United on Friday.
