Jose Mourinho was beaming about his squad depth after Tottenham’s win over LASK in the Europa League.
Tottenham got off to a winning start in the group stages of the Europa League, having already won three games to qualify for the main tournament.
New signing Carlos Vinicius got two assists as Spurs overcame LASK with a 3-0 win. Vinicius was one of nine changes Mourinho made for the encounter, and the manager was happy that his rotation had the desired effect.
Mourinho told BT Sport: “I’m happy for the squad. We changed lot of players… others have worked so hard.
“Normally I wouldn’t do it in the first match in the phase when we’re playing at home but I trust the boys and it was good.
“The performance was solid and safe. We could have scored more goals but it’s not a knockout game. Just three points.
“If we had supporters in the stadium it would have been more. They bring an extra bit of energy.
“In the end it was an opportunity for players to play and get confidence.
“I feel for the subs – everybody wants to play.
“Last season we had lots of problems without a strike force and without winger and attackers in some parts of the season. I look at my side now and I have so many options.”
Bale describes ‘amazing’ feeling
One of the players Mourinho brought into the action was Gareth Bale, who made his first start since returning to the club.
Bale also spoke to the media after the game, admitting it feels “amazing” to be back at Tottenham.
He said: “I am a bit stiff. It is like a mini pre-season for me and I am trying to get minutes into the legs.
“Hopefully it won’t take me long to get back up to full speed and I am enjoying being on the pitch and being back at this amazing club.”
