Jota outlines only regret despite dazzling start to Liverpool career

Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota has admitted to feeling “bitter” at Liverpool despite his incredible start to life on Merseyside.

The Portugal international moved to Anfield in a £41million move from Premier League rivals Wolves in September.

He was brought in to provide back-up to Liverpool’s famed front three, but has already shown he is much better than that.

The 23-year-old has notched seven goals so far, including a hat-trick in a Champions League win at Atalanta.

His performances have also been earning widespread praise. Jota, however, is devastated he is unable to perform in front of Liverpool supporters, as Covid-19 restrictions still apply in stadiums.

Jota told TVI, as cited by Goal: “When I first signed at Anfield, I was asked what my feeling was and I said, for it to be perfect, I had to play in a full stadium to have that even more special feeling.

“It feels bitter not being able to feel the atmosphere of Anfield.”

Jota has also revealed he is refusing to think about his long-term future at Anfield. Indeed, his focus is purely on the present.

The forward added: “I try not to think about a long future.

“I came here to do my best. I didn’t aim for anything in particular and when that is the case, there are no disappointments or surprises.

“I’m at one of the best teams in the world, if not the best, so I have to take advantage of that. And looking ahead, if I am focused, I know that I will have many opportunities.

“Liverpool have great players and I came here to be one more and help to win titles.”

Klopp’s men are next in action on November 21 when they take on current pacesetters Leicester at Anfield.

Jota fumes over FIFA 21 rating

A disgruntled Jota has challenged the makers of FIFA 21 to improve his rating in the game.

Jota has hit the ground running since joining Liverpool and his form has raised questions of Roberto Firmino’s role in the Liverpool starting lineup.

However, despite his transfer to Merseyside, there is one aspect Jota is unhappy with: his FIFA 21 rating.

The player claims the game’s makers, EA Sports, didn’t bother improving his ‘card’ this summer. That’s despite his goalscoring exploits for Wolves last season and since his switch to Anfield.

Speaking about his passion for FIFA, Jota has accused the makers of being ‘shocked’ by his move to Liverpool.

“I like to play, I always liked it, it was always something I always did. I left school, did my homework and then I liked to stay playing. I’d also go to the backyard to play ball. But I always spent a lot of time holding the controller,” Jota said, as quoted by O Jogo and via Sport Witness.

Explaining why he thinks his move to Anfield surprised the game’s makers, he added: “I think they were taken by surprise when I went to Liverpool. They thought I was going to stay at Wolverhampton and then they didn’t even bother to upgrade my card.”

Jota added that he has kept his ‘card’ from last season and has compared the data.

“I kept the data from last season, and despite being one of the best scorers in the Europa League and everything, they didn’t even bother.

“As long as they send me my 99 card, which it seems every professional player is entitled to, I’m happy.”
