Tottenham defender Juan Foyth has signed a new deal at the club before completing a loan move to LaLiga side Villarreal.
Argentina centre-back Foyth has extended his association with Spurs until the summer of 2023.
However he will spend the remainder of this season in Spain after falling down the pecking order in north London.
Foyth moved to England from Estudiantes in August 2017 and has gone on to make 32 Tottenham appearances.
But opportunities in recent months have been limited for the 22-year-old. He has not featured at all since December last year and will now head elsewhere in search of regular playing time.
However he has first has put pen to paper on a 12-month contract extension at Spurs that runs until 2023.
A Tottenham statement said: “Juan Foyth has signed a new contract with the club until 2023 and joined Spanish side Villarreal on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
Previous reports have suggested that Barcelona turned down a late chance to swoop in for the defender. The Camp Nou club though continue to hunt a deal for Manchester City’s Eric Garcia.
Foyth’s departure comes only a matter of days after Tottenham completed a loan deal of their own. Striker Carlos Vinicius has arrived from Benfica for the campaign to ease the burden on Harry Kane’s shoulders.
Spurs have an option to buy the attacker for around £40million.
Vinicius said: “I wanted to say to everyone that together we’ll taste success.
“I’m here to join this family to share your joy and bring home silverware.”
