Tottenham star sets out transfer priorities after admitting he wants to leave

Juan Foyth has made an open admission to the Argentine media that he wants to leave Tottenham for more playing time elsewhere.

Foyth joined Spurs back in 2017, but has since made just 16 appearances in the Premier League. He has not featured for Spurs at all in 2020, having started just twice since Jose Mourinho took over as manager.

Despite the departure of Jan Vertonghen potentially opening up a space in the squad, Foyth looks set to leave Tottenham as well this summer.

Leeds were tipped to make a move before they gained promotion to the Premier League, with compatriot Marcelo Bielsa fond of the player.

Reports have also linked Foyth with a return to Argentina, with Boca Juniors among the options mentioned.

However, the 22-year-old has dismissed those stories, despite admitting he is looking to move on.

“My agents told me nothing of Boca’s interest,” Foyth told TyC Sports (via Sport Witness). “Yes, journalists asked me but I told them that my first option is to stay in Europe.

“I don’t think about going back to Argentina. Right now it’s best to stay in Europe. It’s what I want and what the club will surely look for, either with a sale or a loan.

“For my future and because the dream of every player is to be in Europe, the best thing is to stay here and seek continuity.”

FOYTH TIPPED TO SOLVE SPURS DILEMMA

Foyth’s blatant plea for a departure does not bode well for any potential plans Mourinho may have had to use him as a right-back.

Earlier this month, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson urged his old side to use Foyth as a full-back, instead of Serge Aurier.

“I have worried about Aurier’s defensive capabilities for some time,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Defensively I have criticised him this year but going forward he offers the team a lot.

“When Foyth came in for the Champions League games they looked a lot more secure.”
