Borussia Dortmund will announce the signing of exciting Birmingham midfielder Jude Bellingham in the coming days, according to a report.
The 16-year-old is one of English football’s most exciting talents after his stunning breakthrough season in the Championship.
He has made 36 league appearances, chipping in with four goals including two match-winners in August and September.
Reports in January claimed Manchester United and Chelsea wanted to sign the teenager, though they failed to agree a deal.
More recently, however, United and Dortmund have tussled for Bellingham and ESPN now claims the German side have won the battle.
Dortmund reportedly convinced the Englishman on the premise of regular Bundesliga and Champions League football.
The deal will cost around £20million in a training compensation fee – rather than a transfer fee – due to Bellingham’s age.
He is unable to sign a professional contract until his 17th birthday later this month and will complete the protracted season – which ends in July – with Birmingham.
Bellingham also reportedly took Jadon Sancho‘s path from England to Germany as inspiration for his decision.
Sancho left Manchester City for Dortmund in 2017 and has directly contributed to 77 goals in 98 appearances.
The move is not the first time Dortmund will have beaten United to a transfer target this season.
Both clubs wanted to sign Erling Haaland in January, but again the German side won the race for the Norwegian’s signature.
Should the deal for Bellingham go through, Dortmund will grow their promising collection of young talents.
Although, speculation has mounted over Sancho’s future, with the winger wanted by United.
NO BELLINGHAM FOR MAN UTD – BUT AN EXCITING WINGER?
Dortmund are reportedly standing firm over Sancho’s future, however.
The club will only accept bids of over £100million which, in the current market, could see United back away.
As such, several other reports claim Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey is among the list of alternative targets.
