Jude Bellingham feels his fate is in his “own hands” following his Borussia Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland making the move to Manchester City.
At just 18 years of age, Bellingham has become one of the most exciting young talents in world football. The midfielder has produced countless stunning performances at Borussia Dortmund.
He has contributed to 14 goals in all competitions from the midfield this season. His link up with Dortmund teammate Haaland has been deadly, and has helped the side to second place in the Bundesliga.
What’s more, 18-year-old Bellingham has made 12 appearances for England already. While he is yet to score, he has shown he is capable to play at international level.
Indeed, Dortmund has been a stepping stone to big things for a number of players in recent years. Haaland’s transfer to Manchester City is the latest in a line of top players moving on from the club.
Bellingham revealed how happy he is for his teammate getting a big move to the Premier League in a recent interview.
“I told him that I am very happy for him that he can take the next step on his path as a footballer,” he told Ruhr Nachrichten.
“He’s a brilliant player, a brilliant guy. I will miss that the most. He’s a really good character. I think City are very lucky to have such a player.”
Bellingham himself has been linked with a move to the English top flight. Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with the youngster.
Should Haaland do well, which is of course expected, it could persuade Bellingham into making the switch back to England.
‘Fate in my own hands’ says Bellingham
While some in his situation might have their eyes on Haaland, it seems Bellingham is 100 per cent focused on his own game.
“I have my fate in my own hands and I know that I can develop further if I make an effort and trust the people around me,” he said.
“I think my development this year has meant that I’ve played a bigger role in every game but two. I’m really grateful to Dortmund for the way they nurtured my talent.”
It sounds as if Bellingham is utterly focused on doing his best for Dortmund, as they have given him a chance in a big league despite his age. However, he would surely give his all for whoever he played for.
While it may not be this summer, surely at some point, a Premier League side will take the plunge and bring the star back to England.
