Jurgen Klopp confirms key Liverpool star back in first-team training

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that midfielder Naby Keita is back in first-team training as he steps up his recovery from a muscle issue.

Keita suffered the injury ahead of the Reds’ UEFA Super Cup final victory over Chelsea in August and has been sidelined since.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with the Blues on Sunday, however, Klopp confirmed that the Guinean midfielder will join in Friday’s training session with the first-team, his first session back from injury.

“Naby Keita is back in training with the team. Today is first time with the team,” the German said.

Klopp also said that Divock Origi – who limped off in last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Newcastle – is “unlikely to play” and is being assessed “day-by-day” by the club’s medical department.

Speaking about Alisson Becker – who has been sidelined with a calf issue since the Premier League opener against Norwich- Klopp said: “Alisson making big progress. ]He had] a proper session yesterday with [goalkeeping coach] John Achterberg.

“[He is] not in team training yet, and we take it day by day. We will see. [It is] too early to say, the medical department will tell me.”
