Report claims Klopp has identified €70m long-term replacement for Salah

Liverpool have identified Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, claims a report.

Salah has been one of Liverpool’s most important players in recent years. He has already reached 100 goals for the club, and has won the Champions League and Premier League.

Despite the success of Liverpool’s front three since Salah’s arrival, there have been frequent – if perhaps fanciful – claims that at least one member of their attack could leave.

Now, fresh doubt has been cast on Salah’s long-term future at Anfield. Despite being under contract until 2023, Don Balon claim that this “could be” his last season with Liverpool.

At the age of 28, it could be Salah’s last chance to secure a big move away from Liverpool, although he continues to enjoy a lot of success under Jurgen Klopp.

However, Don Balon suggest Klopp is already thinking towards life after Salah – and one potential replacement has emerged.

According to the report, Klopp has outlined Rodrygo as someone who could step into Salah’s place whenever he does leave. Liverpool were interested in the Brazilian before he joined Real Madrid, but could go back in for him in the future.

Rodrygo worth at least €70m

Now, Klopp has “fallen in love” with the idea of signing Rodrygo. The teenager has already provided three assists in La Liga this season, despite all but one of his appearances coming from the bench.

The €45m Madrid paid for Rodrygo is starting to “bear fruit”, the report continues. Hence, Madrid would be able to command a high price before considering his exit.

Even so, manager Zinedine Zidane is “completely opposed” to letting the winger go.

Therefore, negotiations would have to start around the €70m mark if Liverpool were to convince Madrid to sell their developing asset.

Liverpool would not pay that fee without first selling either Salah or Sadio Mane. It seems unlikely they would be willing to do so at present.

However, Rodrygo apparently remains very much in their thoughts in case they do need to replenish their attack.
