Jurgen Klopp responds to claims that Liverpool’s title bid is over

Jurgen Klopp: Pleased with gritty win
Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool remain very much in this season’s title chase – and will be for years to come – despite their poor run of results continuing on Saturday.
The 0-0 draw at Anfield against Manchester United left the Reds with just one win in their last eight matches and ensures they trail leaders Manchester City by nine points – which, given the form of Pep Guardiola’s side, looks a tall order to chase down.
Klopp, however, insists the Reds aren’t done yet and believes Liverpool will be contenders to win the Premier League title each and every season.
He said: “We have to do whatever is necessary and we will be challengers. We will be challengers for the next few years, no problem.
“We showed big heart, we were brave. I thought we were smart in doing the right thing at the right moment but in the end it didn’t work out.
“I am not overly-positive, I am not crazy but I really see we are still good, and that is what I try to push. People around the stadium today saw a game they wanted to see — but they all had Liverpool shirts on.”
Our Monday Verdict discussed how Jose Mourinho is the master of the dark arts with the draw at Anfield, while Klopp is largely portrayed as tactically naive.
However, the Reds boss is keen to shrug that off and declared: “If we don’t score five times it is not good enough, if we concede even one goal we have a bad defence…that is how it is in our city.”
And Klopp has urged Reds fans to look at the bigger picture and realise how Liverpool did manage to adjust their system against a side who came simply to claim a point.
“For me today, one team who can become champion this year was in our stadium and is not a world apart from us,” he added. “It’s not that we are playing on different planets and they are really good and we do not find the entrance to the stadium.”
