Jurgen Klopp wowed by ex-Liverpool man Emre Can’s move to Dortmund

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that Borussia Dortmund’s decision to sign former Red Emre Can is a “win-win situation” for both club and player.

Can, who moved to Liverpool in 2014, left for Juventus in the summer of 2018 but failed to make his mark under Maurizio Sarri and was underused in the midfield.

As such, the German international agreed a deadline-day loan move to Dortmund, with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.

Speaking to German outlet Bild, Klopp spoke of his admiration for his compatriot and the transfer.

“I am happy for BVB and Emre Can,” he said. “It’s a win-win situation. Emre is just a perfect match for this club.

“BVB got a top lad, a wonderful, versatile footballer with an outstanding attitude.

“I trust them to achieve a lot in the Ruckrunde [second half of the season] with Can and [Erling Braut] Haaland].

Haaland, another recent addition to Dortmund’s squad, has enjoyed a blistering start to life in the Bundesliga and has now scored a goal every 20 minutes in the German top flight.

In other Liverpool news, Lille midfelder Boubakary Soumare has placed the Reds at the top of his wish list for a summer move, with Manchester United a second preference.

United and Chelsea were linked with a move for Soumare in the January transfer window but it was Newcastle who came closest, having a bid rejected on deadline day.

According to French outlet Le10 Sport, however, Soumare has sounded out his top clubs, who are aware of his interest in moving to the Premier League.
