Juventus considering free transfer raid on Man Utd for young midfielder

Juventus are reportedly keeping tabs on Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong, with a view to a potential summer move.

The 19-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and talks over a new deal have so far stalled.

The Dutchman has made a handful of first-team appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far this term but was not involved against Chelsea in the EFL in midweek.

Chong is free to talk to foreign clubs as early as January and was said to have been watched by Juve scouts in action for United’s Under-23s last week.

The Daily Mail reports that the Italian champions are interested, among a host of other European clubs, and could repeat their free transfer swoop of Paul Pogba back in 2012.

Solskjaer remains hopeful Chong will extend his stay at Old Trafford, having handed the teenager his debut last season, but while the likes of Brandon Williams and James Garner were involved against Chelsea, Chong played in the Leasing.com Trophy 24 hours earlier.

Speaking recently about his first-team appearances, Chong said: “It’s all a learning experience and I’m really enjoying it.

“Training is a different level as well now. Definitely, the training and the games are tougher, stuff like that, as you progress.

“But you keep training and keep playing games and you’ll get there. You start getting used to the tempo to the game and, like I’ve said, it’s been a good experience for us.”
