European giant ‘ready to sell’ Tottenham, West Ham midfield target

European giants Juventus are reportedly prepared to part with a midfielder wanted by Tottenham and West Ham.

The two London-based sides have had varying starts to the 2021-22 campaign. Tottenham began with three successive league victories but have since dropped down the table.

Their 3-1 defeat to north London rivals Arsenal was a particularly disappointing performance. Many fans expected Nuno Espirito Santo’s team to come out on top but goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka ensured the spoils went the other way.

Spurs will be looking to succeed in this season’s Europa Conference League. They currently sit top of Group G on four points from two matches.

West Ham, meanwhile, started strongly with ten goals and seven points from their first three games. Defeats to Man Utd and Brentford have slowed them down but they still look set to compete in the top six.

Both teams are keen to bolster the midfield area in January and have lined up Juventus’ West McKennie as a solution.

The 23-year-old is already one of America’s most experienced players. He has received 25 caps so far, scoring on seven occasions.

Tottenham are said to be interested in Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne, with more news on Sam Johnstone links and Nuno Espirito Santo.

A move to the Premier League could soon occur as Juventus look to increase their transfer funds.

Italian outlet Tuttosport write that the Old Lady are ready to sell McKennie. They believe they can find a better midfielder to add to their ranks and want a quick sale as a result.

Monaco wonderkid Aurelien Tchouameni is the most likely replacement. He is also being targeted by Chelsea and Liverpool.

McKennie only joined Juve permanently in July but club chiefs are ready to cut their losses. Max Allegri has mainly used him as an impact sub this campaign.

Tottenham believe McKennie would be able to compete with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp for a starting spot.

West Ham already have a strong midfield consisting of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek. McKennie is therefore viewed as a long-term replacement for the retiring Mark Noble.

Tottenham clause puts Nuno future in doubt

Spurs included a surprise clause when appointing Nuno during the summer.

The Portuguese was a free agent after deciding to leave his role at Wolves. Chairman Daniel Levy reached an agreement with him in June following a long and arduous managerial hunt.

The Daily Mail write that Spurs can sever ties with Nuno without paying compensation, but only if they finish outside of the top six.

It is unclear whether achieving a Europa Conference League place again would save his job.

Spurs are currently sat in eighth after seven matches. They travel to Newcastle on October 17, once the international break has ended.
