Juventus are reportedly ready to challenge Manchester United and Chelsea for the signing of a €40million Barcelona star.
The Serie A champions are on the lookout for defensive and midfield reinforcements and the potential addition of Barca’s Sergi Roberto would cover both positions.
Both Chelsea and United have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old, who can play at right-back or in midfield, but Sport claims that Juve are now the frontunners his signature.
The Italian giants had been rumoured to be close to signing Sevilla star Steven N’Zonzi, but were refusing to pay the €40million asking price for the former Stoke star, and have now turned their attentions to Roberto, who is also a target for Monaco.
Juve are said to be prepared to pay the €40m release clause for Roberto given the Spain international’s versatility, news that will come as a potential blow to both Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
Roberto has made 95 La Liga appearances for Barca, having begun his career with the club’s ‘B’ side, and scored their famous winner in the last minute as they overcame a four-goal deficit to beat PSG 6-5 on aggregate in the Champions League last 16 in March.
