Keown blasts Arsenal star in comparison with ‘unbelievable’ teammate

Martin Keown has said that “unbelievable” Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka is – on his current form – playing better than £72m summer arrival Nicolas Pepe.

Saka scored one and assisted another as he inspired the Gunners to a 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening Europa League game of the season on Thursday evening.

Pepe, meanwhile, is yet to score for Arsenal in six appearances – although the Ivory Coast international has registered two assists – and, speaking to BT Sport, former Arsenal man Keown said that the winger is being outshone by his 18-year-old teammate.

“You think of the way Pepe’s playing at the moment, they paid £72m for him, and this kid [Saka] looks better than him tonight,” the pundit said.

“Look at this for composure,” Keown added when talking about Saka’s curled finish in the second half of Thursday’s 3-0 victory. “It’s a beautiful finish. 18 years of age, unbelievable.”

In other Arsenal news, defender Shkodran Mustafi – who played his first game this season for the Gunners on Thursday – has admitted that he remains open to the possibility of leaving North London if the right opportunity arises.
