LaLiga escape route opens up for £71m Chelsea man

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is on the radar of LaLiga side Valencia, according to a report.

Spanish outlet Sport report that Valencia goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen looks set to leave the Mestalla this summer, and Arrizabalaga is being eyed up as a potential replacement.

The Spaniard remains the most expensive goalkeeper in the world, with the Blues having paid Athletic Bilbao £71million for his services in 2018, but Frank Lampard remains unconvinced by the 25-year-old.

The Spaniard was warned that his place in the starting line-up was not to be taken for granted when Lampard dropped him earlier in the season,.

Kepa has since reclaimed his starting berth from Willy Caballero, who this week signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge after his one-year contract extension was exercised by the club.

Kepa clashed with former coach Maurizio Sarri in his first season at Stamford Bridge after infamously refusing to be substituted in the League Cup final, while Lampard described his relationship with Kepa in February as “fine”.

Kepa has also revealed that he never took Lampard’s decision to drop him personally.

“The relationship with Frank is very good,” Kepa told Marca (via the Metro). “He has shown me confidence from the first moment.

“He must make decisions, but I feel I have his confidence, both his and that of the whole club. We all like to play in every game.

If Valencia lay an offer down for the player to return to more familiar surroundings it may be tempting for Kepa and Lampard alike.
