Report reveals key Cavani request could see him angle for Man Utd move

Manchester United are among the top contenders to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani this summer as they are more likely than his fellow suitors to be able to meet his wage demands, according to reports.

Cavani, whose contract in the French capital is set to expire in the summer, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes in recent months.

United were credited with interest in January as they looked to fill the void left by Marcus Rashford’s back injury, the Red Devils eventually opting for Odion Ighalo on loan.

Atletico Madrid were also linked with a move and according to Spanish source AS, both clubs remain heavily invested in a move, as well as Argentine club Boca Juniors.

However, the newspaper says that Cavani, who earns €10million a season in France, does not want to budge on his salary demands and although a move to Boca is tempting, he is aware that the club are unlikely to be able to afford his financial expectations.

United and Atletico Madrid will face no such problems, meaning Boca now hope that the “greatness” and “aura” of moving to the iconic club will be enough to convince Cavani.

AS says that a move to Boca “wouldn’t be far-fetched” as Cavani has looked for a while as if he would benefit from a change of scenery.

Either way, another key request from the striker is a team that would hand him “many minutes”.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami have also been named as a main competitor for Cavani alongside United and Atletico.

Cavani, who is PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer with 200 goals, has endured a turbulent season at the Parc des Princes affected by injury issues and the arrival of Mauro Icardi on loan from Inter Milan.

The Uruguayan started the season down the pecking order but since the turn of the year he has again risen in prominence.

In other news, United midfielder Paul Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola are reportedly in a standoff over the player’s future at Old Trafford.

Raiola has been outspoken in recent months about the future of his client, who has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Juventus.
