Manchester United are “seriously working” on bringing Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon to Old Trafford before the October transfer deadline, according to reports.
The 23-year-old, who was formerly a target for Chelsea, is at a career crossroads after an impressive loan spell. He helped Sevilla win last season’s Europa League but his chances of game time at Madrid look bleak.
Indeed, he has now reportedly received strong interest from United. Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen to find new competition on the left flank.
However, previous reports have indicated United face several problems. Madrid want to include a buy-back clause, which would give them first refusal if he impresses in Manchester.
According to top journalist Fabrizio Romano (via Twitter) that remains the case. What’s more, United also do not want to pay Reguilon’s €30million (£27million) price tag.
Although, the reporter adds that United have already ticked a key part of the deal off the to-do list. Reguilon is keen to move to Old Trafford and, as such, personal terms are not an issue.
In any case, talks are “ongoing” between United and the player’s agent and a first United bid for Reguilon will arrive “soon”.
Previous reports had suggested the left-back was open to securing another move to Sevilla. However, Romano adds that the LaLiga side are now out of contention.
Solskjaer currently has Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams to call on at left-back. However, Shaw has been unable to prove his fitness since his arrival in Manchester, while Williams, 19, requires further development.
SANCHO DEAL FINALLY DEAD IN THE WATER
Meanwhile, United’s long-touted move for Jadon Sancho looks to have hit further roadblocks.
The transfer fee for the Borussia Dortmund winger has proved the key stumbling block in talks. Dortmund want £108million for the England international and are refusing to lower their demand.
Now, though, another Dortmund figure has expressed his confidence that Sancho will stay at the club.
