Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp responded to the recent critics of his side, and revealed what part of their victory over Sheffield Utd he ‘didn’t care’ about.

Liverpool secured a vital victory to snap their four-match losing streak in the league.

Second-half goals from Curtis Jones and a deflected Roberto Firmino strike that was classified as an own goal settled the contest.

The win puts the Reds within two points of fourth position despite their recent wretched run.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Klopp said: “The plan was to keep going and do the same stuff again. When we could play like we wanted to play, they couldn’t deal with us.

“Sheffield United have lost a lot but all by the smallest margin. It’s clear these games stay exciting until the very end. We could have scored three in the first half. What we created was very good. The finishing was good enough for today, but we can improve.

“It’s normal that we’re criticized, people have written us off. That’s fine.”

On the performance of goalscorer Jones, Klopp added: “He is a top player, that’s why he’s playing. He has to be involved more in goalscoring situations, like everywhere there is space for improvement.”

Regarding Firmino’s goal being ruled a Kean Bryan own goal, the German concluded: “He had a goal, who cares? For him it counts, if it’s not in the stats, I don’t care.

“This was about us showing we’re still there. We play Chelsea on Thursday, we have to show it again. We have to win football games, we know that. There’s no way into the Champions League without results. Tonight we got it, we keep going.”

Man of the match Jones also spoke to the press, telling Sky Sports: “It’s been a difficult time for me and the rest of the team.

“This goal is for Ally’s [Alisson Becker] dad. If he sees this, this is for you bro.

“He’s a strong lad and a big part of the team. We miss him for sure. I’m dedicating my goal to him and his dad, and his family.

“It was a good team performance. I’m happy that we get the points and we can go again.

“Today was a good example of putting it all together. I am happy I score and I’m happy for the rest of the team.”
