Liverpool are in talks with defender Joe Gomez over a new deal following his impressive start to the season, a report claims.
The England international has formed a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence, and he has been praised for his development recently.
The Reds have kept six clean sheets in the Premier League already this season and appear to be some way towards fixing their defensive frailties.
Gomez also put in an assured performance in Liverpool’s 4-0 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade at Anfield on Wednesday night.
According to a report from Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board are in agreement that the defender’s performances warrant improved terms.
Gomez’s progress was halted within days of Klopp taking over at the club in 2015 when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on England under-21 duty.
It took the youngster 15 months to make another appearance for the first team after suffering an Achilles injury that set back his recovery.
However, he has now racked up 53 appearances for Liverpool despite having ankle surgery in May that meant he missed the Champions League final and World Cup.
