The 25-year-old has a release clause in his contract which means he could leave in the summer for 25 million euros and he has been linked moves to many of Europe’s top clubs.

However, Klopp hopes the Germany international will not follow in the footsteps of Mario Goetze and Robert Lewandowski and leave Dortmund.

“The boys are 100 percent here and I have a positive feeling that the player we are talking about (Reus) will stay a bit longer,” the Dortmund boss told Die Welt.

Reus has not played for Dortmund since late November after sustaining an ankle injury in the 2-2 draw with Paderborn.

In his absence, Dortmund have been unable to climb up the Bundesliga table and find themselves second from bottom after 10 defeats in 17 matches.

However, Klopp is still confident they will avoid relegation, saying: “We are not naively optimistic and know that the pressure situations won’t be any less. But when we look at our situation, we know we can control it.”

“To finish the first half of the season in 17th place felt like going on holiday on a bed of nails. Obviously, we have been viewed harshly, also by our own fans, trust is a delicate flower, which can be quickly lost.

“We have to win back some credit, but we can’t just focus on (next opponents) Leverkusen. Our position is clear, we are four points behind the area where we want to be at the end of the season.”
