Klopp still keen on Liverpool target with rising transfer chance as Man Utd muscle in

Antonio Sanabria and Gleison Bremer celebrate a Torino goal

Liverpool retain an interest in Torino defender Gleison Bremer, but have been joined by both Manchester clubs in the pursuit, according to an Italian report.

Bremer has been linked with Liverpool for a long time. They were tipped to sign him amid their defensive shortage last winter, but eventually acted elsewhere. Even so, the Brazilian has reportedly remained in their sights since.

He said in April that he did not know anything about the potential transfer. The summer passed without him making a move, but now he is back on the transfer agenda for many clubs.

According to Fantacalcio, Bremer will not renew his contract with Torino, which expires in 2023. Therefore, a sale next year – either in January or the summer – may be the best solution for all concerned.

The report claims there are five clubs circling for Bremer. Liverpool remain at the top of the list, despite making several other signings at centre-back since their interest in him first emerged.

For example, in January they signed Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies. Neither are at the club now, although the latter is still on the books and out on loan. Then, in the summer they added Ibrahima Konate.

They are thus reasonably well stocked in that department now. Their options as things stand are Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Konate and Nat Phillips.

Davies and Rhys Williams may also be hoping to be reintegrated next year after their loan spells at Sheffield United and Swansea respectively.

Liverpool shortlist RB Salzburg's Karim Adeyemi and Villarreal's Arnaut Danjuma

Liverpool have reportedly shortlisted RB Salzburg's Karim Adeyemi and Villarreal's Arnaut Danjuma as potential targets, with more updates on Brighton's Yves Bissouma and Pogon Szczecin'a Kacper Kozlowski.

But Jurgen Klopp remains an admirer of Bremer and may be viewing a perfect opportunity to sign him regardless.

Bremer attracts other suitors

Alternatively, the 24-year-old could end up on either side of the Manchester divide. The report states that Man Utd and Man City are both also keen on Bremer.

Likewise, they each have plenty of options at the back already, but could be looking for more. United added Raphael Varane to their squad this summer to partner Harry Maguire. In addition, they have Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly as their main backups, plus Phil Jones and Teden Mengi.

As long as Varane and Maguire continue as the starting pair, any of those alternatives may start reflecting on their futures – if they aren’t doing so already.

City, meanwhile, have Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake at their disposal.

As always, though, there remains a chance of movement for players of their own, in which case replacements would need to be drafted in. Bremer could be a good option.

He has made six appearances in Serie A so far this season after 33 the previous year. Consequently, he also has clubs eyeing him in Italy. Namely, Juventus and Inter Milan are apparently keeping tabs on him.

The report predicts that Bremer could cost somewhere between €20m and €25m.
