Klopp told Liverpool would not miss star forward with glaring underbelly

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s play is too one-dimensional and Jurgen Klopp would therefore not miss him if he left, according to one pundit.

Among the plethora of top signings Klopp has made at Anfield, Salah has an argument to be the best.

The Egyptian has netted over 100 goals since his arrival, finishing as the Reds’ top scorer in each of his three seasons there. What’s more, he became the fourth-fastest player to reach 50 Premier League strikes.

Indeed, some of the goals in his collection have proved more crucial than others; the penalty in the 2019 Champions League final and his last-minute strike against Manchester United stand out, for instance.

According to David James, though, Salah’s record of eight Premier League goals this term does not tell the full story. The former goalkeeper insists that Liverpool look “better” without him on the field.

James told Stadium Astro: “I’ve said this before and it’s not that Mo Salah isn’t a great player, it’s just that Liverpool seem to look better without him on the field because there is more fluidity.

“When players can pop it around, it causes problems to defend.

“Players who pick the ball up and run with it, essentially you only have to stop them. That is what happens with Salah, even though he has scored eight goals [this season].”

James was speaking about the prospect of Liverpool selling Salah to the likes of Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have loosely been linked with a swoop in recent seasons.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher speculated last season that, of the club’s infamous front three, Salah would be the one fans would choose to sell.

Salah has a price

James, meanwhile, says that every player has a price no matter their quality.

“If the price is right, any player is going to be sold. It depends what that price is,” the former player said.

“If Salah went to Man City, I don’t think that would be good business for Liverpool. If he went to a different league and a different country, it would make more sense.

“I don’t think Liverpool are dependent on Salah and that’s a good thing for Jurgen Klopp. However, he would still need replacing. I don’t think [Salah]’s indispensable.”

For now, though, Liverpool boss Klopp will welcome Salah back to his team with open arms amid the club’s injury crisis.

Salah returned his first negative test for Covid-19 amid a period of self-isolation during the international break. As such, he will now return to training.
