Jurgen Klopp: Not concerned by spending

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he is trying to trim his “big” squad as he attempts to create a positive atmosphere.

Mamadou Sakho and Mario Balotelli continue to be linked with a move away from Anfield, and Klopp is ready to choose quality over quantity this season.

“You have to make decisions about your squad. When it is 1 September we then have to analyse the situation and see what we do then,” said Klopp.

“Our squad should not be too big. We don’t have 60-something games and to have a good atmosphere all players need to see their perspective and that is what we are working for.

“There is no reason at this moment to think about what could happen if we have too big a squad because we are working on this side but I cannot say anything about it until 1 September.”

As the Reds gear up to face Tottenham this weekend, Klopp also responded to Daniel Sturridge’s complaint about being played out of position.
