Ronald Koeman: Preparing players for Sunderland clash

Arsenal want Southampton manager Ronald Koeman to replace Arsene Wenger when the Frenchman decides to call it a day at Emirates Stadium, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

Wenger’s current contract with the Gunners runs until the end of next season, and there have not yet been any discussions  over a new one.

The Daily Star Sunday says it is Wenger that is continuing to delay the talks, with Koeman emerging as the Arsenal hierarchy’s top choice should the 66-year-old decide against extending his 20-year reign.

According to the newspaper, some club insiders believe Wenger will walk away a year early at the end of this season should he lead the team to the Premier League title.

When asked if talks had begun over a new deal, Wenger said: “Not at the moment. I am focused on doing well and I want to give it absolutely everything until the end of the season.”
