Koscielny hailed as Prem’s best defender by Ferdinand
Rio Ferdinand believes Laurent Koscielny is the best defender in the Premier League – but says Arsenal need more cover at both the back and midfield.
Koscielny helped Arsenal into the last 16 of the Champions League with a 3-0 win at Olympiacos on Wednesday night, with Ferdinand full of praise for the Frenchman after the game.
“Laurent Koscielny, when he’s on form, he’s the best defender in the league for me,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“He’s one of those you don’t want to play against – he’s quick, he’s aggressive.”
Despite Ferdinand’s praise of Koscielny, he believes Arsenal should strengthen in both defence and midfield.
“I think they need some more cover in the central defensive area,” Ferdinand added.
“They need a dominant central midfielder. It’s not been the same since [Patrick] Vieira left.”
