Kylian Mbappe faces ‘least certain’ future of famous PSG trio, as insider reveals all on latest Real Madrid transfer chances

Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has a less certain future than fellow Paris Saint-Germain superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar, TEAMtalk has been told, but the alarm bells aren’t ringing in the French capital just yet.

Mbappe extended his contract with PSG last May after plenty of speculation about a transfer to Real Madrid. Since then, he has scored 25 goals from 27 appearances in the 2022-23 season. He also scored a hat-trick for France in the World Cup final, even though they ended up losing to Messi’s Argentina.

Thanks to his form, Mbappe is never really going to fade from the attention of giant clubs like Real Madrid. Therefore, PSG are going to have to remain competitive in order to keep their top talents on side.

TEAMtalk has already been told that rumours about Neymar leaving for Chelsea, or anywhere else, are misguided. Furthermore, there are plans to extend Messi’s contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season.

Our insider Ben Jacobs has also revealed what the state of play is for Mbappe’s future.

“With Kylian Mbappe, we know that there was a big drama around him supposedly wanting out of the club as early as last January. And eventually Mbappe actually came out and denied that, but it was seen kind of as a bit of a power play,” Jacobs told us.

“In terms of people close to Mbappe briefing he was unhappy, briefing he wanted more control, briefing that ultimately, he wanted to be able to be more than just a football star at that club, and have some say and influence over how the team played and what Galtier the manager did. And then suddenly, everything died down and Mbappe countered and said he was happy. And Luis Campos came out and said he’s not aware of any problems. And things died down for a little bit. And obviously, in fact, he didn’t go during the January window.

“And as I’ve reported many times, that was never a possibility. But as we head towards the summer, it’s a slightly more interesting dynamic, because PSG when they had Mbappe renew did so for two reasons. One, because they of course, wanted the player, and that’s the primary driving factor, but two it protected the value. And the whole thing about PSG’s tactic in everything they do is to either have stars and succeed or make sure that they make money.

“They don’t want to be in scenarios where players outstay their welcome and then end up winding down contracts to the point where they don’t make a decent return. And outgoings if you look at last summer in particular, were a bit of a struggle for PSG.

“So with Mbappe, the primary concern will be to either keep him or make sure that they get a healthy transfer fee, because the whole point of that extension was twofold to make sure that either he stayed or PSG if they lose him at a later date, are able to cash in with a large amount of money.”

If anyone is to prise Mbappe away from PSG, then Real Madrid still look to be one of the likeliest candidates.

In terms of their interest, though, there will be a few factors at play, according to Jacobs.

“So then when we look at Mbappe’s suitors, there’s Real Madrid, but Real Madrid are looking at a number of players,” he continued. “They want to be in the race for Jude Bellingham, let’s not forget and it’s going to be difficult for Real Madrid to, if they win Bellingham, also getting Mbappe.

“So some decisions between different targets are going to have to be made. Some of the decisions might be made for Real Madrid, because they’re not obviously the only suitor in the race for a player like Jude Bellingham, but we know that Mbappe likes the idea of Real Madrid and thought long and hard about joining them before he extended at PSG. So that move can’t be ruled out.

“But right now, PSG are not resigned to anything with any of the stars; they are optimistic that Messi will renew and Neymar is not for sale. And even though there will be interest in Mbappe, and his future of the three is the least certain, PSG are calm about that situation, because if Mbappe goes, they expect to make great money. And if Mbappe stays, then it’s a hullabaloo.

“Sometimes the stories about exits and unhappiness and dramas needs to be taken with a pinch of salt because right now, the PSG strategy, if they possibly can, is to hang on to Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and I don’t think that they see any scenario where they would lose more than one unless it’s on their terms.”

Across his whole PSG career, Mbappe has scored 196 goals from 244 appearances.
