LA Galaxy president discusses links with Ibrahimovic

Los Angeles Galaxy president Chris Klein refused to confirm whether the MLS club had held talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over an imminent move.

Reports last week suggested negotiations had taken place and that Ibrahimovic would be allowed to walk away from his Man Utd contract before it expires at the end of the season.

However, when asked about a move for the veteran star, Klein was keeping his cards close to his chest.

“We’re nowhere,” he told mlssoccer.com. “We wouldn’t comment on it.”

Klein also declined to confirm that talks with Ibrahimovic had taken place.

“We wouldn’t,” he said. “It’s unfair, because he’s contracted to another club.”

Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid insists he isn’t yet thinking about how he would accommodate Ibrahimovic into his team.

“If it happens, it happens, and once it happens, then we’ll give thought to it,” he said.

“Right now, it’s preparing the group that I have and preparing the group that I have to win games.

“He’s a big player. Big players have an impact on your team, whether that’s Zlatan or whether that’s Messi or a Neymar – guys like that have an impact on your team.

“Obviously, he’s been a successful player, he’s won trophies everywhere he’s been, but until it happens, I’m not going to worry about it.”

Galaxy striker Giovani dos Santos claims he is also in the dark, but he admits he would welcome Ibrahimovic’s arrival at the club.

“I don’t know if it’s going to happen,” he said. “I respect him. I think he’s one of the best players in history, you know, the greatest striker.

“A player like him, I think, is welcome in every team.”
