Lacazette on tenterhooks as he warns Aubameyang about break of trust

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette Arsenal TEAMtalk

Alexandre Lacazette says he hopes good friend and fellow Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will inform him of his future plans before he tells the media.

Aubameyang has entered the final year of his contract with the Gunners, leading to rife speculation about his future.

Indeed, reports have linked the Gabon international with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has previously said he is “positive” about the talks he has held with the striker. Aubameyang himself, meanwhile, has said he wants to finish the season before going further.

In any case, the decision over the future of the striker – who has scored 64 games in 105 games – could have a telling impact on Arsenal’s progress in the seasons to come.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Lacazette said Aubameyang is already an Arsenal legend for his goal record. However, he added that talks between the pair have ended.

“He is already one of the legends [at Arsenal] because of the amount of goals he’s scored in so few games,” the Frenchman said.

“But to be honest, we stopped talking about this [his future] because at the beginning it can be funny.

“But long term you can start to be annoying because you want something that is not maybe the way we’d like and I don’t want to be the guy being a bit annoying.

“So we don’t really speak about his future. I’m just going to wait like everyone else. And I just hope he’s going tell me before the press.”

Elsewhere, Arsenal have confirmed that striker Gabriel Martinelli will be out for up to five months.

The Brazilian suffered a knee injury last month and recently underwent surgery.

Martinelli has scored 10 times in 26 appearance. Indeed, his best highlight was his solo goal against Chelsea.
