Manchester United are battling it out with Barcelona for the signature of a talented Ajax youngster, according to reports.

Italian outlet Calciomercato report that the Premier league side will face off against the Catalan giants for Justin Kluivert, the son of Dutch legend Patrick.

The 18-year-old has been hugely impressive in a breakout season for Ajax and has been tipped for a big-money summer move, having scored seven times in his 24 Eredivisie appearances this season.

Kluivert has just over a year left on his contract with Ajax, and with his agent being the powerful Mino Raiola, the time may be coming for the teenager to cash in.

Reports from the Mirror last month suggested that United were in advanced talks over a £10m move for Kluivert, a deal which could end up costing them £25m.

However, his father did reveal his belief that he should stay at Ajax for another year.

APatrick told Cadena SER: “He [Justin] is doing things really well and the most important thing is that he continues like so.

“I have told him that he is 18 and he has to be calm and make himself stronger, [and] that he stays for a year or more at Ajax. He should not leave his country soon. It’s difficult to say no to Barca, but also to other big teams.

“He should choose the team that responds most to his play and not to the one that pays him more money. I see my son more in the Spanish league, he will choose his future with his heart but he has to have his head and feet on the ground.”
