Lambert refuses to blame Butland after howler against Leicester

Stoke boss Paul Lambert attached no blame to Butland after his blunder and backed the goalkeeper to move on quickly.

Lambert said: “I think he’s the best goalkeeper in Britain, I really do. I think he’s absolutely fabulous at this minute in time and it’ll be the making of him.

“It’s how he comes back from it, you pick yourself up, you dust yourself down and you go again. I think that’s the sign of great players, they make mistakes but it’s how you come back from them.”

Lambert hailed the importance of Shaqiri, saying: “I think he’s a world-class footballer. He makes things happen and thankfully he’s playing ever so well.”

Butland later wrote on Twitter: “Extremely disappointed as you can imagine, but you won’t see me hiding.

“I hope I managed to make amends. Honoured to captain the club today and overwhelmed by the support as always.”
